Hangin' in T-Town.

I had the most wonderful past few days boxin' in my old stompin' ground - Tacoma! I do love living at the coast, but it can feel a little isolating for this city-girl. We boxed like mad-dogs on Thursday, ate at a favorite restaurant, attended a lecture and after-party, and checked into the hotel. Friday was coffee, boxing, and more boxing! Saturday was making our way back for the boxes that were calling to me! What a fantastic time :)

So, just like visiting family, I took a few pics to mark the occasion.

In a sweet part of Tacoma, the Fern Hill district.

Historically, the Fern Hill neighborhood is one of the oldest in Tacoma and home to some of the city’s most interesting historic buildings. The historic building at 8310 S. Park Ave. was originally built to serve as a Wells Fargo stop. Two of the district’s churches, the Fern Hill Baptist Church and the Fern Hill Methodist Episcopal Church were built in the 1890s (https://experiencetacoma.com/fern-hill/).

Along Commencement Bay looking toward downtown Tacoma,
with the Port to our left (yep, those are dark rain clouds!)

After nabbing a few boxes, we had to beat it over to campus to hear a lecture. Thankfully, there were two boxes there, as well!

what a treat to spend some time with my
favorite prof, mentor, and friend

The next morning, we started the day at a fun, kitschy restaurant called the Homestead. It features an amazing menu item I just had to try - they call it the 'Wagonwheel' breakfast: hashbrowns, cheese, egg, ham, and bacon in between a sliced plate-sized cinnamon roll. Yep, you read that right - a huge cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich! No, I didn't eat it all (!!). Yes, it was sinfully delish!

After that, we were well-fueled to find a lighthouse, a polliwog and some fancy letters. And, we were amazingly successful, I am happy to report!

then, a little bit of local shopping
and admiring this cool mash-up mural

I do love these trail pics

here we are at Snake Lake!

We finally wore ourselves out enough to head back home before it got too late. The next morning, I guess I just wasn't done letterboxing in Tacoma, because Samsonite and I packed up and headed back north! And, we managed to snag a few more!

The sun was shining, the dogs were running, the people were smiling and friendly, we got a history lesson, and we laughed. Life is still good, despite what we read in the news.

In the remnants of the old poor farm,
they engraved the history of the area - how clever!

hope.

Until next time...
