Just a little romance

This little carve was for a postal project called 'Sweet Romance'. The idea was to share a romantic moment and carve a stamp to match. (actual stamp size 2" x 3") I thought it would be fun to share the story I included in the logbook.

My hubby isn’t really the romantic type. I racked my brain trying to think of a romantic thing that I could tell y’all about. The kids and I talked about it. We looked at old pictures for hours, and finally found this picture. It’s a little bouquet of wild flowers stuck in a champagne cork.

It was a sunny, but cool, fall day. We had our first child and I had been stuck in the house for a while trying to figure out how to take care of her and adjust our family to three. As a couple, we enjoyed taking day trips up to the mountains, but had not been able to for quite some time. So, on this fall day, Rob suggested we pack up the baby and head for the hills.

Unfortunately, it was a strain. Not as relaxed as we would have liked, as our new addition was quite high-maintenance. By the time Rob pulled over into a little spot next to a babbling creek, I was pretty stressed out. Was the baby warm enough? Why was she so fussy? What am I doing wrong?

Rob set up some folding chairs, and put his two girls next to the creek. He built a fire and got out the picnic lunch we’d brought. He popped the bottle of champagne I’d packed and brought me a glass, hoping I would relax.

“Cheers!” he said in his best chipper voice. I looked at him with a forced smile and drank. I was hoping my mood would lighten. We sat next to the creek in silence. The baby sat on my lap and was content for a bit, to my surprise. Rob got up and went exploring for a bit. It was nice to sit by the little creek in the green forest and listen to the birds and chipmunks scurrying about.

When he returned, he filled my glass and sat down next to me. On a stump that we were using for a table, he placed this little bouquet. He didn’t say anything, but I knew he was trying really hard to make this special for me. It was so sweet, how could that not work?

I took this picture to remember the day. It was the only picture I took that day, even though I am an avid photographer (even more so then).

OK, so perhaps he is more romantic than I thought.

Well, I must have needed a romantic shot in the arm today. ;-)
I thoroughly enjoy your combination of photos, stamp images, and narration. It's beyond photojournalism.
