Rosh HaShanah

(actual stamp 3" x 2.5")

Chag Sameach
and L'Shana Tova, everyone!*

Today is Rosh HaShanah, the 'head' of the Jewish year. Above is a stamp I carved in honor of the festival on crumbly stuff - can you believe it? - oh-so-long ago. As you can see, I was still trying to wrap my head around the positive and negative parts of an image. I ran into some problems trying to give texture to the beard and getting his face right. Wow, that was a long time ago...I'm thinkin' back in 05'.

He was carved for my Festival Letterbox - a traditional box which featured rotating stamps highlighting the upcoming Biblical festivals (and some traditional Jewish ones, as well). That box is still alive, surprisingly, and now features a beautiful stamp that my famous letterboxing friend Mama Cache carved for our visit in '08. It is certainly a treat for all who venture down to the shore to seek it out.

So, here's to a sweet year, my friends. *glass raised*

*Happy Festival and A Good Year (to you)

The Rosh HaShanah stamp! Chag Sameach! I just pulled out my little book to get a peek at my copy. Thanks again for sharing him.

Happy to hear that the other little stamp is faring well. You "drove through the desert for a stamp with no name." *grin*

Have a good year, my friend!

Thank you for sharing your stamp. I would love to see your Festival Letterbox sometime -- I have a love for Jewish and other Biblical festivals.

A blessed Rosh HaShanah to you and your family.
